When it comes to selling a property, one thing that people will be looking for is a home that feels spacious. Of course, not every property will be blessed with plenty of room, however there are ways that you can make a smaller space feel all the bigger.
So, if you need to make a property look bigger for a client, here are some great tips for how to make sure that even the cosiest of rooms look even bigger.
Try to have some breathing room around furniture
There is no getting away from the fact that we all need furniture. The trouble with furniture is that it takes up space. You may be tempted to try pushing it all against a wall to open up the room, but this may actually haven the opposite effect. Instead, why not try floating some of the larger pieces in the middle of the room. If you can, give it some space to breathe and you will create a room that looks all the bigger.
Storage is key
Homes can become cluttered, and if you are trying to make one look perfect for selling, then storage is going to be your best friend. Why not recommend that they try an ottoman that has built in space for blankets, books or anything else. Not only does these come in a variety of colours which can really liven up a room, but they will make sure that whatever space there is doesn’t look cluttered and full up.
Mirrors are your friend
Mirrors are one of the quickest and easiest ways to make a space look bigger than it is. They not only reflect the rest of the room creating an optical illusion of space, but they also allow light to bounce around, something that is a great way to make a room feel bigger. You don’t have to hang them on the wall even, freestanding mirrors are also ideal for this purpose.
Why not try a rug?
You may not realise it, but a simple rug can have a huge impact on how a room feels. A round rug is ideal if you have a smaller room as it creates some form of a connection throughout all of the furniture whilst not adding another rectangular shape to break up the space. Not only this, but they are also a great way to add a splash of colour or texture to a room.
Light it up
Lighting is key when making a room look spacious. However, not every home is blessed with floods of natural light. This means that you may need to call in a lamp or two to help. Floor lamps are best, especially those that are slender as these take up less room and can be placed wherever you find that you need more light.
It can be harder to perfectly stage a property that is a little on the smaller side, but it isn’t impossible. In fact these are just some of the ways you can give any room, no matter how small, a bit more appeal when it comes selling it.
